CONFERENCE PROGRAM
Introduction
IACI invites you to participate in an art-filled, five-day visit to Morelia, Mexico, entitled "Senderos Culturales--Cultural Paths, Part V," to be held from October 25 - 30 2007. The purpose of this Semana Cultural/Cultural Week is to raise awareness for the IACI project to restore the mural "The Struggle Against War and Terror" created by Reuben Kadish and Philip Goldstein, with the assistance of poet Jules Langsner in 1935.

This mural depicts timeless historic themes of war, oppression and terror, themes of great concern to contemporary society today. Quite mysteriously, the mural was obliterated from public view by a false wall for almost 40 years. A roof leak led to it being rediscoved.

Details of its origin remained largely obscure until a pilgrimage to Morelia by Kadish's brother in 2001 provided the amazing revelation that Goldstein was in fact the renowned abstract expressionist Philip Guston.

Under the direction of New York sculptor Leah Poller, IACI has organized a series of cultural visits to Morelia, presenting world-class speakers together with international art exhibits held in both New York and Morelia.

For 2007, the keynote speaker Dr. Miguel Angel Corzo, past President of the University of the Arts (PA) and acting president of the Colburn University (CA) will direct the conference program 'From Mural to Monument - when national cultural patrimony becomes a global matter.' More than twenty international artists will contribute in the related traveling exhibition "2 by 2 - A Cultural Ark."

You are cordially invited to participate in the 2007 Semana Cultural/Cultural Week, Senderos Culturales Part V.

2007 Senderos Culturales Activities

A portion of your conference fee will be treated as a tax deductible donation for the restoration of the mural.

About Morelia
Situated midway between Mexico City and Guadalajara (3.5 hours by car on excellent national highways), Morelia is a Vice-royal Spanish Colonial City founded in 1578 as Vallodolid. It was renamed Morelia in honor of the birthplace of the revolutionary, Jose Maria Morelos. "What makes Morelia unique, what confers it with its distinctive beauty and indisputable merit is its architectural and cultural wealth amassed over more than four centuries." Morelia enjoys year-round, moderate climate, a restored historic center city, world-class restaurants and hotel accommodations and an international airport. Declared "Patrimony of World Humanity" by UNESCO, it has retained the pure presence of a bustling, vibrant colonial Mexican city, steeped in history, and providing outstanding cultural resources (International Film Festival, International Music Festival, Cervantes Festival)
